Milton Keynes based housing association, Grand Union Housing Group, is celebrating its 30 year anniversary this week. Mid Beds Housing Association, as it was then known, was first formed in 1994, following a stock transfer of 2,896 homes from Mid Beds District Council on 3 October that year.
In 2000, MacIntyre Housing Association joined as a subsidiary and further stock transfers from Mid Beds District Council followed, with Grand Union Housing Group being formed in 2008. Unification of the subsidiaries brought the organisation together in 2018 and a move to its current office in Milton Keynes brought staff across the region together in 2019.
Aileen Evans, Group Chief Executive, said: “From just under 3,000 homes 30 years ago, we’re proud to now provide over 13,000 homes across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire.
“But we don’t just provide homes, our 400 colleagues provide additional services to help our customers, such as wellbeing support, welfare benefits advice, domestic abuse support, and youth involvement services.
“We’re looking forward to further growth as well as building 900 more new homes over the next few years to play our part in ending the housing crisis.
Grand Union is currently in talks with Longhurst Group about a proposed merger of the two organisations which combined, would own and manage over 37,000 homes and employ over 1,400 colleagues across the Midlands and east of England.
