Passive fire protection for brick and stone facades

Brick and stone have been used to build housing for centuries. However, with increasingly strict standards to meet, there’s a need for cavity solutions engineered for these applications.

Siderise has launched a range of solutions to help building owners, operators, specifiers, contractors, and others find the products they need to create long lasting masonry buildings.

The set includes the Siderise External Wall (EW) system of cavity barriers and firestops, and enhanced External Wall Intumescent (EWI) versions, which incorporates integral intumescent material that expands in reaction to heat, sealing external masonry walls that have an irregular cavity (such as those with external protruding design elements). Each system is suitable for both masonry inner leaf and SFS constructions.

These are joined by the Siderise BB Balcony Bracket solution. Siderise BB provides a rapid solution to a complex detail and allows continuity of cavity compartmentation when abutted either side by Siderise Cavity Barriers and Fire Stops. This has been tested to EN ISO 1363-1:2012 for up to 2 hours integrity and 2 hours insulation, giving a fire performance rating of EI 120.

Whilst not a passive fire protection solution, the regulatory requirement for non-combustible cavity trays within masonry and SFS buildings has driven the development of the Siderise Non-Combustible Cavity Tray (NC-CT). This combines a flexible aluminium cavity tray with a non-combustible insulation to create a robust, single-component solution which has been tested to EN 13501-1 Fire classification of construction products and building elements and the product is rated A2, s1 d0. This unique and factory-engineered design provides reliable quality and performance, making it simple to specify and swift install with corners cut on site and the tray simply adhered via factory-applied tapes, on to the substrate.
