Redrow apartments acquired by Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association

Luxury apartments for the over 55s built at Redrow’s The Hawthorns in Leeds are due to be acquired by Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) for social and intermediate rent later this year.

A total of 12 one and two-bedroom apartments at Redrow’s popular development off the Outer Ring Road, will offer affordable rent options for single people / couples over 55 in Leeds.

The provision of properties for the over 55s highlights Redrow’s thriving communities’ ethos of bringing benefits to local communities.

John Handley, managing director of Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) said: “I’m very pleased to share that Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association will be acquiring the apartments once they are complete this Autumn. The apartments will deliver the affordable housing requirement on the site.

“We always strive to develop more than just homes in the areas where we build and create thriving communities for all ages. The fact that these apartments will only be available to anyone over the age of 55 means that The Hawthorns will offer unique housing to people who want to be a part of a wider community.”

LYHA now manages almost 1,600 homes across Yorkshire providing homes for single people, couples and families, ranging from period properties to new-builds and from studio apartments to four-bedroom houses.

The apartments at The Hawthorns will add to the Association’s property portfolio, and its vision ‘to ensure all of our customers live in a home they love and in a community in which they can thrive’.

Joanna Chambers, Director of Assets & Growth at Leeds & Yorkshire Housing said: “Redrow approached LYHA when they were in the planning stages and we discussed the requirements for affordable homes in the area. We felt a scheme designated specifically for over 55s would work well and the Council agreed. Most of the properties in the locality are houses and we hope that these attractive, new flats will suit people looking to downsize and help to free up larger homes for families that need them. All the homes will be built to meet high energy efficiency standards making them affordable to run. I look forward to seeing them take shape and welcoming our new customers.”

As well as the apartments for over 55s, The Hawthorns is already home to a variety of two, three and four-bedroom homes from Redrow’s award-winning Heritage Collection which combines traditional exteriors with bright, spacious and desirable modern interiors.

The Hawthorns is just off the A6120 Leeds outer ring road, and five miles to the north east of the city centre in the Cross Gates and Whinmoor district, so it’s ideally positioned close to local amenities yet with both the vibrant city centre and leafy countryside nearby.
