Why using a fire alarm company for your smoke control maintenance could be dangerous

Smoke kills twice as many people as fire.

Smoke control is a crucial life safety system. It needs to be carefully designed, installed and commissioned properly by fully competent experts. Equally, it must be maintained by competent people who should have third party certification.

10 reasons to choose a Colt service contract

Smoke is different to fire

Although clearly related to fire, smoke control systems demand specific and specialist maintenance experts. All too often, smoke control is lumped in with fire alarms and security services. Unfortunately, these companies are not always qualified or equipped to carry out the necessary checks and tests for smoke-specific equipment. Colt service engineers receive regular training and regulatory updates specific to smoke control and are among the best in the industry. Learn more

A Smoke Test is not a service

If your smoke control service provider is not doing full motor resistance and load tests, then your system is not being tested to work at maximum duty, which is precisely when it needs to function properly. Similarly, if they are not identifying cause and effect of any failures and checking battery charge rates, you can’t be certain the system will perform when needed. At Colt, our engineers carry out thorough testing on all systems we maintain, giving you peace of mind. Learn more

For all Colt-qualified engineers the training never stops

All Colt engineers receive an initial, full training programme from our technical team when they join us at our state-of-the-art, purpose-built training centre. The centre has fully functioning mock-ups of different Colt systems along with other suppliers’ equipment, giving the engineers real life training on every aspect of a smoke control system, variable shaft system and pressurisation system. They also receive training on smoke and fire dampers and smoke and fire curtains.

Faults or issues added to these systems teach engineers how to diagnose and repair components quickly, leading to more “first fix” jobs for the customer. This training is topped up annually whenever there are any important new developments or regulatory updates. Learn more
