Work begins on new affordable housing development in Frodsham

Construction has officially started on Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s (WVHT) latest housing development in Frodsham, delivering 12 social rented new homes for local families.

Working in partnership with John Southworth Builders, the project will transform the former Meadow Court site off Clifton Crescent into a vibrant new community, reinforcing the Trust’s commitment to increasing the supply of high-quality, energy efficient, accessible housing across Cheshire.

The scheme will deliver four three-bedroom houses, two two-bedroom houses, and six one-bedroom walk-up apartments – with parking spaces and private rear gardens.

All homes have been designed to meet Nationally Described Space Standards and enhanced accessibility requirements, ensuring they are suitable for a wide range of residents, including those with age-related or mobility needs.

The development is expected to be completed early 2027 and will be WVHT’s second new-build social rented scheme. This investment reflects the Trust’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive communities and delivering homes that meet modern standards.

Gemma Wood, Director of Regeneration & New Homes at WVHT, said:

“We know there is significant demand for affordable housing across Cheshire, and this development will help us meet that need by providing high-quality, accessible homes while delivering real social value for our communities.

“Strong partnerships are central to our development programme, and we’re pleased to be working with John Southworth Builders once again, following our nearly completed Wakefield Court scheme in Northwich.

“Together with John Southworth, and with the continued support from Homes England, we’re committed to building stronger communities and we look forward to seeing the Meadow Court homes take shape.”

Shahi Islam, Director – Affordable Housing Grants at Homes England, said:

“As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality, affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting Weaver Vale Housing Trust in achieving its ambitions.

“Meadow Court is a prime example of how we work collaboratively with partners, through the Affordable Homes Programme, to achieve our mission of building much-needed new communities that people can be proud of.”

Steven Brown, Managing Director at John Southworth Builders, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Weaver Vale to deliver these much needed, quality, affordable and accessible homes for families. This development will play an important role in addressing local housing need while ensuring homes are built to a high standard and designed with residents’ long-term wellbeing in mind.”
