Platform Housing Group has launched its new Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2026-2028, setting out its roadmap for creating lasting positive impacts for customers, communities and the environment.
The strategy outlines how the Group will respond to some of the most significant environmental challenges facing society, including climate change, biodiversity loss and resource efficiency, while embedding sustainability into decision making across every part of the organisation.
Central to the strategy is Platform’s commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050. To support this ambition, the group has set interim emission reduction targets and a commitment to continue externally validating its Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring transparent reporting and accountability. As part of the strategy, Platform will also continue to increase climate awareness across the organisation, ensuring colleagues have the knowledge and skills needed to support its environmental ambitions.
Creating more sustainable homes is a key priority for the Group and the strategy sets out its commitment to improving the energy efficiency of homes by 2030. It also sets out plans to reduce waste and resource consumption, enhance biodiversity and work closely with suppliers and partners to create positive environmental outcomes.
The strategy builds on progress Platform has already made in improving the sustainability of its homes and operations, its investment in low carbon technologies and its expansion of its electric vehicle fleet.
Shaped through collaboration with customers, colleagues and stakeholders, the strategy reflects the priorities of the communities Platform serves.
Lianne Taylor, Director of Sustainability at Platform Housing Group said: “The challenges posed by climate change and biodiversity loss mean organisations like ours have an important role to play in creating positive environmental outcomes for future generations.
“This strategy sets out how we’ll do that. It provides a clear framework for action, from improving the energy efficiency of our homes and reducing emissions to protecting and enhancing nature and working with our partners to create more sustainable communities.
“Sustainability isn’t something that sits alongside our business, it’s integral to how we make decisions, invest in our homes and support our customers. By working together with colleagues, customers and partners, we can create lasting positive impacts for the communities we serve.”
The launch of the strategy coincides with Platform’s first Sustainability Week, providing colleagues with opportunities to learn more about the organisation’s environmental ambitions and how they can contribute. Activities throughout the week include the launch of a new sustainability hub on the organisation’s intranet, case studies highlighting successful community initiatives, and a Lunch and Learn sessions exploring the strategy and its commitments in more detail.
